At the end of the day, we are really just a bunch of nerds. We've been extra-nerdy lately because we've been reading the Magic Tree House books which have been sparking the big girls' interests in dinosaurs and mummies and whatnot!! So.....we've made a couple of trips to museums to let our inner science-geeks shine!! BAZINGA!! :)
Fernbank Science Museum
A few months back, we headed over to Fernbank for a grand ol' time. :)
Ella following the dino tracks:
Super excited about all the dinosaurs and fossils!!!
My little carnivores:
They had a really groovy whale-exhibit. It is UNREAL to see how big those creatures are!!
Inside the heart of a whale:
HUGE!!
The big girls and I watched a 3D movie about monkeys, and Clairy and Daddy had a little science excursion on their own :)
This kid - such a trip. She's such a ball of fun.
They found the photobooth!!
Little explorers!!
Checking out the Georgia Habitats :)
Daddy's favorite :)
And Mama's favorite!!
Prettiest little explorers I've ever seen :)
MORE DINOSAURS!!!
"What is dat??" I have no idea, kid......a hairy dinosaur???
Blowing giant bubbles:
Being meteorologists....which is ironic as I type this because we've been watching the weather stations all day long. Apparently, a large "Winter Storm" is on the way, but all we've seen is gross sleet so far. No fun. (Come ON, OLAF!!)
Daddy was impersonating Karen Minton, his favorite weather gal. He is secretly in love with her :)
Tornadoes!!
Excited about the giant sound booth:
Grease lightning!!
Does Clairy not look like she's straight out of the Harry Potter movie - so mischievous. This child would be dangerous with lightning in her hands!!
Lights and illusions are swell:
The big girls were thrilled to see the actual "Magic Tree House!!"
Clairy just could not figure out those magic bugs!! Magnets are a tricky thing :)
Ella is such a little builder/maker/creator. So very smart, yet so loving. She has such a special place in Mama's heart:
Canoe!!
Building a fort:
Fort success!!
While it has nothing to do with our scientific nerdiness, I must say that we had our first family adventure to Tijuana Garage after the museum. Yummo!!
Tellus Science Museum
This past weekend, the made our first trip to the Tellus Museum. Though I LOVE the Fernbank, I must admit that Tellus is my new fav. It is so interesting, hands-on, and kid-friendly.
Checking out the compass-pendulum in the foyer :)
The first exhibit was the layers of Earth with all of it's rocks and minerals - we are SO going to have to come back next year when we study this more in science.....when I'm Nora's 3rd grade teacher. #scaryforher #iamtough #learnyourstandards
We dug all the minerals!! (No pun intended) :)
Checking out all of the mining equipment :)
Chess game made of gold, silver, and gems....if anyone needs a Christmas idea for me :)
Claira was just mesmerized by the golden phone :)
Trying her best to make an earthquake....I guess she doesn't realize that she does that on a daily basis.
The earth is a neato place;
Heading to "My Big Back Yard!"
Loving the CrAzY-mIrRoRs!!
Magnetic machines!! Marvelous!!
Watching the planetarium movie about constellations:
Well, what do ya know?? MORE DINOSAURS!!!!
Woolly mammoth!!
Saber Tooth!! #iceage
Not quite sure what this is.....giant armadillo???
Look at E-Bobby compared to all of these critters....they were HUGEEEEEE!!
The girls were extra excited about the pterodactyls/pteronodons since that's what Jack and Annie flew on in the Magic Tree House books. :)
T-Rex!!
DINOSAUR POOP!!
Off to the transportation exhibit:
The space stuff was EXTRA cool!!
Ella was explaining to Claira that 3 men died in this capsule when it caught fire while in space. Claira kept coming back to this saying, "Poor guys."
That Ella....she is always stopping to take the time to teach her little sister something. Such a blessing.
Outer space RULES!!
Off to pan for gems and dig for fossils!!
All that scientific overload makes a little gal tired!!
And after a big lunch of hibachi, it makes a 2nd-grader tired, too!!
Such fun times for us geeks who love science......and FOOD!!
An off-topic ps - I would just like to add that the sleet FINALLY turned to SNOW!! Score!! No school again tomorrow!! (stay tuned!!)
Cheers to the inner-Sheldon in all of us!!
