Day in Atlanta - Visiting the "King" :)

Last weekend, the weather was beautiful (warm and sunny.....prior to the past weekend being snowy and freezing. No wonder everyone stays sick in Georgia!), So, we headed downtown for a day in the city.
We went to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site. He was one of the American Heroes that Nora studied last year, and she was so excited to visit!! I remember visiting London and seeing several statues of MLK - he's a worldwide leader, and us "Metro-Atlantans" often forget that we have his history in our own backyard. Not to mention, the center is completely free (including parking). Such a great experience:
Mahatma Gandhi
A few footprints of some other American heroes that we've studied:
Checking out all of the images and videos, many difficult to watch, but necessary. I'm thankful that my girls can learn and grow from the sheer ignorance of the past.
The carriage that carried him in his funeral procession:
(Nora is becoming just like her Daddy. She stops to read every little fact. Makes my heart happy.)
The podium in which he gave his "I Have a Dream" speech. So neat!!
Clairy making a donation :)
I think they were a little freaked out by the marching statues :)
Next up, we headed over to Ebenezer Baptist Church to hear some of the sermons of Dr. King:
I literally could've stayed there all day. So powerful, yet peaceful:
Ella got a little teary-eyed while listening to him speak. My little soul sister:
We also got to see the eternal flame...
and the resting place of the Dr. King and Coretta:
Checking out the lovely fountains and Freedom Hall:
Finally, we visited the house/birthplace of MLK, Jr:
We had to end the day with a little Varsity! #frostedorange
Of course, Clairy refused to wear her hat for our selfie.
All in all, such a great and beautiful day in the city!! So much to learn, so much to eat!!

May the foolishness of the past give us LOVE, respect, tolerance, and knowledge for the future!!

Cheers to mankind!!
